Stencel Family

Now this is sweet: Padre Stencel is in the Air Force and currently overseas. He spent his birthday away from family, so Christen wanted to surprise him with some pictures for his birthday. Unfortunately, the weather did not work in our favor. We had to reschedule because of the rain and the pictures weren't ready for his birthday. I did go ahead and edit up one right quick so she'd have something to show him.

These kiddos were fun fun fun. We took off for a park in Edmond and spent a few hours playing and snapping pictures. I think we got one "everybody look here and smile!" picture. Kids just want to run around and be kids, and that's quite alright with me!

Big sister and I went up and down the giant jungle gym thing I don't know how many times. Up the stairs, down a slide, through a tunnel, across the balancing board... She made me feel old. Like, really old. I was worn out and she was lapping me the whole time. I think she could have played another few hours had we let her.

Little brother was a little less active, but not for a lack of trying. He's still trying to master this whole walking thing and spent quite a bit of time falling and getting back up. He wasn't much for sitting still, though. He'd just get right back up and try again.

This one cracks me up. Littl sis was trying to love on brother, but he just wanted to stand up. Mom had to intervene.

Lindsey & Jason | Engagement

It's possible we picked the world's windiest day to take these photos. I mean, yes, we live in Oklahoma. Every day is windy. But goodness, I thought little Lindsey might blow away!

The one thing I say that freaks people out the most is "now, I don't really pose you. Just act natural and I'll capture the moments." They look at me like I'm crazy. Sometimes I think they might question their choice of a photographer and wish for an immediate refund. But in all honesty, the pictures you love are the pictures of you being you. I'll direct you, but I won't position you just so. You'll put your hands where is most natural and turn your head to a comfortable place, and the picture will look just like you. And that's the point of my style; natural and photojournalistic.

Now I say that in this post because I got one of those looks from Lindsey when I told them to just act naturally. She said with a slight undertone of worry, "we're not very good at just acting natural." I laughed, and started shooting. After showing her a few of the shots, she started feeling much more comfortable with the style. She and Jason began interacting comfortably, chatting, laughing, and goofing off. And that's when the real awesomeness happened.

You see, my job isn't to create the moments, it's to capture them as they happen. I want my clients to look at their photos and say, "Oh yeah, I remember you were throwing grass at me just before that picture and that's why I was laughing." (that actually happened in this shoot)

So here you have it, a sneak peek of those moments. More to come later!

Aubrey | ALMOST 5 Years

When Aubrey's mom contacted me about doing pictures for her daughter, this was the first line of the email: "Okay, the four year girl is now hounding me for her pictures to be done." Right there, I knew she'd be a little diva. Diva's are fun to photograph. They're all about working the camera, showing the sass, giving you the big smiles. They are willing subjects, and well accessorized. You'll see what I mean.

Now, I had no idea this little diva would be so sweet. She wanted these pictures so badly, she braved a cold, windy morning and smiled through the shivers without a single complaint. Momma better watch out. She might have a model on her hands!

Elijah | 6 Months

This is the second time I've shot Elijah. Wait. Let me rephrase that. This is the second time I've photographed Elijah. It always sounds like I'm going all gangsta and shooting up babies. I'm not. I'm a photographer. I shoot them with my camera, just so we're clear.

So back to Elijah; He's a cutie! I love shooting--err--photographing him. Oh whatever, we all know what I mean.

He didn't much like the hat...but we kept it on long enough to get this shot. :)

Gauper Workshop

I finally broke down and paid money to learn. The Gaupers are amazing photographers and were going to be in my area doing a photo workshop and I decided this one would be well worth it. I was quite correct. My main concerns were learning my camera functions a little better, working with strobe lighting, and business (gotsta make some Benjamins!). A cool perk from the workshop was getting to test out lenses. The downside of that is my wishlist cost just doubled. Can you see why the business aspect was so necessary?
